Akram Khan makes a welcome return to Brighton Dome with his latest full scale contemporary ensemble work, Vertical Road.
For this project Khan has assembled a truly international cast of performers and artists from across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. With a specially commissioned score by long-term collaborator Nitin Sawhney, the work takes inspiration from universal myths of angles that symbolise 'ascension' - the road between the earthly and the spiritual, the Vertical Road.
Visually inspiring and spiritually profound, Vertical Road draws on each performer's cultural interpretation of the human odyssey.
Akram Khan is one of the UK's most celebrated dance talents. His choreography - 'flawless, gutsy and a joy to behold' (Time Out Sydney) - includes acclaimed collaborations with Sidi Larbi (Brighton Dome 2006), National Ballet of China (Brighton Festival, 2008), Juliette Binoche, Sylvie Guillem Anish Kapoor and Hanif Kureshi.
