Description

Cimarron - a seven-piece ensemble from the vast cattle-rearing plains of Columbia's Orinoco delta - perform joropo, a fast and infectious traditional rhythm played on harp, bandola, cuatro, bass cajon and maracas.
Led by harpist Carlos Rojas, they have been experimenting with the music of their homeland for the past two decades, on the search for new musical horizons whilst staying true to their roots. This led to a recent critically acclaimed collaboration with celebrated Welsh harpist Catrin Finch.
Cimarron fired up Womad 2009 with its heart-stopping mix of high-velocity music and spontaneous dance. The word Cimarron means ‘wild bull’ – a symbol of liberty on Los Llanos. Combining that untamed spirit with a flawless virtuosity, this is dynamite roots music with a real Latin kick.
